ECC Research & Citizen Insight developed a series of resources, below, intended to support Public Health Accelerator bid applications and awarded projects with the planning, design and delivery of their project evaluation.

1) Mapping your evaluation journey: This provides guidance and key lines of thinking to developing an evaluation tailored to specific projects, based on the project position, scale and timescales. For example, large projects would likely benefit from first evaluating implementation and engagement prior to evaluating impacts.

2) A beginners guide to project evaluation: This is a follow-on to the above resource, taking users through steps to support developing appropriate evaluation questions and understanding which methods could be used to collect insights to answer questions.

For further supporting resources, please see: https://data.essex.gov.uk/dataset/e5lmn/phab-resources-supporting-documents-2-a-beginners-guide-to-project-evaluation

3) What is a logic model / theory of change: This provides information on what they are, what benefits they bring, what they identify, and what the key steps to developing one are, to support understanding.

4) How to create a logic model / theory of change: This is a follow-on to the above resource, taking users through the key steps and lines of thinking required to create one, including making SMART outcome measures which link to the public health priorities. This is more an interactive resource, suited to self-directed completion or workshop discussion.

5) Commissioning an evaluation: As major grants can cost in evaluation to the amount of PHAB funding requested, this resource outlines the benefits of commissioning an evaluation to aid their decision making to commission or not, followed by information on the key steps to commission an evaluation from the RFQ process through to contract award.
