Safer Essex is the statutory county-wide Strategy Group for community safety, bringing together partners from across Essex, Southend and Thurrock to co-ordinate the partnership response to community safety issues. Each District/City/Borough/Unitary council area in Essex also has its own Community Safety Partnership.

Every year, Community Safety Partnerships are required to carry out an assessment of crime and anti social behaviour in the area and agree a partnership plan that sets out their priorities and how they will address them. In doing so, they are also required to ensure that the views of their local communities are fed into this.

In 2023, Safer Essex launched its first Community Safety Survey. The aim of the survey was to help the Community Safety Partnerships to gain the views of their communities in a way that increased engagement and enabled comparison across Greater Essex. The survey has also helped inform the Community Safety Agreement and workplan for Safer Essex for 2024/25.
