Financial barriers to apprenticeships for 16-18 year olds
Essex County Council
Essex County Council commissioned the University of Essex to undertake research exploring the financial barriers to apprenticeships for 16-18 year olds in Essex, particularly those from low-income families.
The research was a small-scale study conducted during 2023 involving young people, parents and representatives from colleges and other stakeholders, and provides insight on:
-
To what extent finances are a barrier to 16-18 year olds from low-income families in taking up apprenticeships
-
What could make apprenticeships a more attractive option for young people in Essex
-
Recommendations for what could help overcome barriers
