The above dashboard provides information about the extent of inequality at local authority level in England in the following domains:

  • Income
  • Rate of employment deprivation
  • Rate of those not entering higher education
  • Health (average years of potential life lost)

Gini coefficients are a single number which describe how equally spread a resource (e.g income) is spread among a population. A score of 0 represents perfect equality, a scenario in which resources are shared equally among a population. A score of 1 by contrast would represent total inequality. Therefore, the higher the score, the higher the presence of inequality in that local authority.
