Each year, Essex County Council sets a research topic to some of the best social science undergraduates at the University of Essex. The Challenge Project acts as an alternative to their individual undergraduate dissertation module in their final year. As a group, the students work together to provide the council with evidence which is academically accredited and cutting edge.

The report was presented to Essex County Council in 2021.

In this year the students were set the research question: 'What has the impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic and lockdown been on young people in Essex?'

On this page you can find the policy brief developed by the students. They researched and provided recommendations on the following themes:

  • Education and Special Educational Needs
  • Mental Health and Young People
UK Open Government Licence
